There's a little more turnover in West Town, as the local "American bistro," Branch 27, shuttered after brunch service yesterday. Ownership spread the word via social media on Saturday, posting "That's All She Wrote Folks. Stop by for a final drink tonight or for Brunch Tomorrow."
Branch 27 partners Cary Michael and Howard Natinsky denied comment, with Michael only calling the decision "bittersweet." Both have already moved onto other projects on Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park: Natinsky, who also owns nearby Five Star bar, is a partner in the recently opened Revel Room; Michael is working to open Links Taproom.
Branch 27 opened in April 2009 only to temporarily close soon after for remodeling. It was revitalized upon reopening under executive chef John Manion that December and was named a best new restaurant by Chicago Magazine. Manion left in February 2011 to open La Sirena Clandestina.
At the moment, the future of the space is unclear. Branch 27 was known for its upscale bar food, brunch, and an extensive beer and wine selection served in the former 27th Ward library building it was named for.
