Mulligan's Public House closed on June 28 and a $195,000 renovation project began July 9 to make way for the upcoming Commonwealth.
Menu details are scarce at the moment, with managing operations partner Kevin Metz stating only that "old comfort classics made with good ingredients," will appear on a small and focused menu. Metz and business partner Matthew Baldino plan on opening Commonwealth in late summer or early fall.
Metz said that the American-style tavern will feature "approachable, chef-driven, quality fare and craft beer in a sophisticated yet unpretentious setting." He is unable to name their chef yet, but says that "he's worked in some great kitchens in Chicago, San Francisco and New York."
The restaurant will also be open mornings for commuters and that they'll be "working with a small Chicago coffee roaster and a quality local bake shop to offer sweets/pastries and coffee." There are plans for brunch service down the line as well. Keep an eye here as more information presents itself.
