Chalkboard Closes, Homegrown Cafe Opening In Its Place

New, 1 comment

Chalkboard chef/owner Gilbert Langlois has announced that the revered home style restaurant has closed. But in its place will come its successor, Homegrown Cafe, which Langlois is also running.

Langlois made the decision to close Chalkboard after six and a half years on July 8. He did so to spend more time with his seven-year-old son. Homegrown Cafe will serve breakfast, brunch and lunch, but not dinner.

The menu will focus on more on simpler made food, with an emphasis on American fare with some Cajun / New Orleans influences as well — an oyster po' boy sandwich or perhaps a beef short rib take on the McRib. But don't go expecting burgers and wings Langlois warns.

The hope is to have Homegrown Cafe open by the first week of August. "It's going to be a quick flip," Langlois asserts. Stay tuned for more information on Homegrown Cafe as details emerge.
