Just past the two-years-open mark, Roots Handmade Pizza is ready to expand with a second location. Ownership behind the Quad Cities-style pizzeria and bar signed on to open at 2200 W. Lawrence, the site of the shuttered Chicago Ale House, according to DNAinfo. Expect the opening in six-to-nine months.
The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group has been in growth mode for months now. A star chef/mixologist duo (Chris Curren and Ben Schiller) recently joined and revamped the menus at the reopened Homestead. The Berkshire Room and second West Town Bakery location are slated to open in the Acme Hotel in River North at some point this month. The Fifty/50 celebrated its five-year anniversary in March.
The second Roots location will join the revamped Himmel's and the recently-opened Borelli Pizza on Lawrence Avenue just east of the Lincoln Avenue strip. This project has been in the works since late 2011, Chicago Ale House closed in August of that year.
