How many BBQ concepts can Wrigleyville and Lakeview sustain? A new one, Old Crow Smokehouse, is set to open up in the space that used to house Chen's chinese after a lease dispute. Chen's will still serve delivery, according to Patch, who first reported the story. The Chen's owership (also John Barleycorn and Moe's Cantina) is behind Old Crow.
Old Crow will be a massive new space on the Clark corridor, taking up two storefronts and 12,000 to 14,000 square-feet, half of which is under a retractable roof. They will reportedly serve American, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese barbecue under the direction of MasterChef alum Tony Scruggs. The beverage program will focus on whiskey of all types, including Japanese and Chinese varieties.
Sweet Baby Rays is so close they can probably smell each other's smokers. Wrigley BBQ and Milt's Barbeque for the Perplexed are a few blocks east on Broadway. Can all of these BBQ-themed eateries subsist in each other's radius? It will be interesting to find out.
