Here's an opening coming almost of nowhere. MAK Restaurant (it stands for modern Asian kitchen) is opening tonight at 5 p.m. with a limited menu for Do Division Street Fest. Originally slated for last summer, then February, owner Tommy Wang (Drawing Room, Evil Olive) was slowed by construction and permit complications.
"It's been a mad dash," Wang says. "I just now got back from picking up my license."
For the next few days, MAK will only serve three-to-five items, for dine-in and grab-and-go, and non-alcoholic beverages like sodas and teas. Look for their "MAK fried rice," "MAK chicken," "MAK beef," and their "special" lollipop-style "Chicken Wangs." Wang hopes to fully open Thursday with his family-inspired "healthier and modernized" Chinese menu.
Regular hours (11 a.m.-10 p.m.) will begin tomorrow. Sidewalk seating is coming soon. Get a sneak peek of the restaurant tonight and see the full menu below.
