New Middle Eastern Restaurant Set for Wicker Park

Chicago can always use a little more Middle Eastern cuisine in its diet and that's precisely what forthcoming Shawarma Garden will bring. The new Wicker Park restaurant will open in an area with several similar eateries already. But that's not fazing owner Mary Ann Mubayed, who wants to "bring [her] heritage to Division Street" by cooking up her family's secret recipes that have been passed down.

Those recipes will comprise the medium-sized menu of about 25 items, which will come in affordable and generous portions. While neighborhood favorites Sultan's Market and Falafel & Grill are firmly entrenched, Shawarma Garden should still be a welcome addition that offers some diverse, home-style ethnic dishes. The restaurant is targeting an early July opening and will offer delivery and takeout, as well as seating for 30.
