Over a pork-laden plate at Cochon 555, an upbeat Charlie McKenna said that the rebuilding of Lillie's Q was coming along very well and he was hoping to reopen in June, only waiting on permits and inspections before going public. They're still waiting on those, but representatives are announcing that the beloved barbecue restaurant is hoping to reopen in mid-June.
Lillie's Q, extensively damaged by an overnight water heater fire nearly two months ago to the day, reopened their French Market location soon after the fire. Firefighters on scene estimated many months of repairs and insurance complications, making this estimated reopening far ahead of schedule.
McKenna is also competing in the pork shoulder category at the Memphis In May World Championship Barbeque Cooking Contest this weekend. Look for pork shoulder, as well as other barbecue fare, to return to the North Avenue spot in around a month.
