The Hyde Park explosion just keeps going, as West Loop BBQ joint and bar Porkchop is joining the ever-expanding list of restaurant and retail tenants in Harper Court, a main cog in the Hyde Park renewal project. This, the second Porkchop location, will be 2500 square-feet and serve all three meals seven days a week. The southern restaurant will join a third Park Tavern (Near West Side, Rosemont) and second Ja' Grill (Lincoln Park) in Harper Court.
Construction on the whole project is set to finish in summer, but it's unknown at this time when each restaurant will open. The newPark Tavern will be double the size of the new Porkchop and Ja' Grill, occupying 5200 square-feet in the first floor of the University of Chicago high-rise building. Owner Roger Greenfield says it will serve a similar menu to the other two Park Taverns, serving Lagunitas beer in conjunction with the new brewery coming to Douglas Park. A large sidewalk patio, bar, and separate dining areas configure the rest of the space. He expects to open by the end of the year and will announce a chef three months prior.
These projects will join the two Matthias Merges Hyde Park concepts and The Promontory to dramatically raise the food and drink options available to University of Chicago staff and students and the neighborhood as a whole.
