The latest redevelopment plans for Portage Theater and its surrounding buildings could bring a new restaurant, brewpub and marketplace to the area. New Portage owner Eddie Carranza, who also owns the Congress Theater, wants to remodel the 93-year-old venue and install a digital projector, as well as open a restaurant in the building before the end of the year. In addition, Carranza is also looking to open a brewpub across the street in the space of the former Mr. Steer Steakhouse, and a food market and cafe. There are still a lot of details to be worked out but it could be a shot in the arm for the aging theater and neighborhood.
