Big Star is about to get bigger, but at this time it's unclear how much. Ownership of the perpetually-busy urban taqueria on Damen have snatched up the adjacent storefront in order to build a second kitchen. A Big Star spokesperson says it will be a commissary to alleviate the strain on the existing kitchen from catering and festival vending. The walk-up window, which sometimes closes, will be moved next door.
Pending inspections, the indoor cafe will be expanded by 60 square feet. It has been reported that they're planning on expanding the outdoor patio, which would be a dream come true for patrons that seem to constantly be waiting in line, but Big Star representatives can't confirm the larger patio at this time.
Having the existing kitchen just for on-site patrons would theoretically lower wait times and shorten lines. But seeing how many customers seem to never want to leave the uber-popular taco joint, you never know.
