The new project from the team behind Ruxbin has a name and more definition. It'll be called Mott Street, according to Time Out Chicago, a double-meaning that references the New York street and the pronunciation of the Korean word for taste.
They have plans for the structure it's going into, formerly MC Bistro on Ashland and Blackhawk. The freestanding bungalow-style building (65 seats inside, 40 patio) was a home for both understated French-Vietnamese fusion and lively attempts at DJ parties at night. There's a canopied outdoor patio facing west onto Ashland that the Ruxbin team hopes will house a farmers' market, a vegetable garden, and a place to host picnics and movies.
The food is based on a dinner collaboration with Time Out last July. Think inventive late-night street-food-style snacks. It will serve alcohol, unlike Ruxbin which is BYOB.
It'll be interesting to see how Mott Street does when they open in the spring, MC Bistro was a ghost town. The reason for that, whether location, concept, or execution, remains to be seen.
