Since leaving City Tavern, the last word on Kendal Duque was that he was home with his family. It turns out that he's back at work, signing on at the forthcoming 17,000 square-foot River North outpost of bar/club/restaurant American Junkie, according to Dish. The concept has locations in Scottsdale, AZ and Hermosa Beach, CA and is known for raucous concerts and nightlife, but the Chicago location will apparently "have a more relaxed vibe."
Duque will attempt to add a menu that will appeal to the more refined River North demographic. He'll be doing a burger with New York-based butcher Pat LaFrieda's beef; a hangar steak sandwich with smothered onion, truffle butter, Taleggio cheese, and a brioche roll; and whole smoked pork shoulder. The beverage program will feature tap cocktails.
Look for the opening March 19, and look for Kendal Duque in the kitchen.
