Meet Nick Barron, the New Goose Island Brewmaster

Two months after Jared Rouben left to start his own brewery, Goose Island is announcing his replacement. Nick Barron, former brewmaster at Flossmoor Station, is your new brewmaster at the Goose Island Brewpubs on Clybourn and in Wrigleyville. The brewpubs are separate from the Goose Island distribution system, now Anheuser-Busch, and brew a wide variety of interesting craft beers only available there.

The Tribune caught up with Barron, who says he'll still be making food-inspired beer, specifically mentioning a strawberry rhubarb saison and "low-alcohol high-flavored" beers. His first batch will be available March 7.

Reached by phone, Rouben is happy for his successor. But will Barron have the 411 on the 312? "Nick is a classically trained brewer and a great friend," Rouben says. "I have enjoyed working with (Barron) in the past and I can't think of a better candidate to take over the Goose Island brewpubs."
