5 Rabbit Brewery Open

After the Tribune reported last month that the new 5 Rabbit Brewery, the only Latin American-owned microbrewery in the U.S., opened last November, it is finally open now. According to the 5 Rabbit website, the site is still under construction, however, and is not open to the public. Eater was contacted today announcing the brewery open and operate in Bedford Park near Midway Airport. Calls to 5 Rabbit's publicist went unanswered.

The brewery is embroiled in a lawsuit between their two original owners. They're also bringing aboard a new commercial director, Cesar Garza, who will oversee marketing and sales. How much the delay in the brewery opening and the new commercial director had to do with the lawsuit is unknown.

5 Rabbit was originally brewed at other Midwestern breweries, and the new 25,000 square-foot brewery will feature a taproom and host private events sometime this year. To be continued.

UPDATE: According to the Tribune, Isaac Showaki, an original 5 Rabbit partner, sold his stake in the company today amongst the ongoing legal battle. [Tribune]
