When Brasserie 54 by LM opened in September, owner Nicole Quaisser decided to use the upstairs space for private dining. Now, after hearing her Andersonville customers clamor for a wine and cocktail space, she's converting it into one. Calling it L'etage (French for "upstairs"), it will open March 1.
L'etage will serve wine, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres. 20 glass pours (10 red, 10 white), bottles, a variety of martinis, French and modern cocktails; and cheese, charcuterie, and dessert plates in the same affordable price range will make their way around the 40-seat space. A separate room for wine tastings leads to a small balcony with sofas that will overlook the Brasserie by LM patio that's opening in the spring. The decor is splashed with dark gray and burgundy, offset with lighter wallpaper, creating an intimate yet casual pairing with the restaurant downstairs. A staircase through the same entrance leads to L'etage, open Thursdays through Sundays from 5 p.m. - 2 a.m., without entering Brasserie 54 by LM. Look for flights of sparking and still wines as well.
Quaisser says that in the five months since opening she's gotten a better feel for the area and clientele. She's also redesigned and redecorated the downstairs space, and the outdoor patio will nearly double the seating upon opening. But L'etage will open first, next Friday.
