Despite Shattered Windows on Christmas, Woodie's Flat Hoping to Open Tomorrow

Woodie's Flat, the upcoming burger spot from Big Onion Tavern Group (Fatpour, Irish Oak, Diag), was the recipient of an unwelcome gift on Christmas morning—four bricks thrown through the front windows. "What a weird way to say Merry Christmas and welcome to the neighborhood," a post to the Facebook page says.

But despite the vandalism, partner Erik Baylis says the group is planning to open the doors tomorrow but they "have a ton to do," including ordering new custom windows. When open, Woodie's Flat will serve 10 different types of burgers, including one on grilled cheese sandwich buns, along with five speciality patties, sandwiches, starters, and craft beer in the large three-floor space.

Diag Bar & Grill, their raucous Michigan bar on Southport, drew complaints from neighborhood residents for excessive noise; Diag subsequently made changes last month. On Christmas Day, someone in Old Town had something against Woodie's Flat before it's even open.
