Parts and Labor, opening today at 4 p.m., could roughly be described as a burger version of the popular pizza and drinking spot, Boiler Room. The focused menu (below) features West Coast-style burgers (griddled), sides (fried giardiniera), dessert, and beer and shots in an industrial-themed space in Logan Square.
Although owner Russ Grant (Boiler Room, Simone's) is careful to pinpoint a theme (but he says "it's not a diner"), the burgers are modeled after his father's 60-year south side staple, Bill Grant's Wonderburger. Similar drink specials as The Boiler Room ($10 for a burger, side, and beer or shot) have made their way north. Sweet options, such as house-made sodas and fried Twinkies add a whimsical element.
Inside, the name Parts and Labor comes to life in the form of industrial elements like ladders, propellers, and photos of mills and factories. A 22-seat bar (larger than Boiler Room) should capture nightlife.
Parts and Labor will open daily at 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. (3 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays). Lunch service will begin soon.
