Since it's truffle season, the small but expensive fungi are all the rage right now. We've already covered the seven-course white truffle tasting menu at Spiaggia, the $20 truffle doughnut at Do-Rite Donuts, and who could forget that $99 truffle pizza from Balena?
Eataly is selling white truffles at cost ($4.48 a gram) to online customers all day tomorrow. If you happen to miss that sale, stop by the newly opened Eataly store for the same sale on Thursday, December 19. In addition to purchasing your own truffles, you will be able to add freshly shaved truffles (also at cost) to selected dishes at Eataly's restaurants.
Quartino is getting into the truffle craze as well. Executive chef John Coletta and Urbani Tartufi are joining up for lunch tomorrow, December 18. For an additional $10 per dish, guests can enjoy black winter truffles shaved tableside to any item on the restaurant's menu. Chef Coletta and the Urbani Tartufi crew will be on hand to discuss all things truffle and you'll be able to purchase truffles by the ounce as well as a truffle shaver ($25).
