Hot on the heels of Next's kickoff menu for 2014 comes news of the restaurant's other incarnations for the new year. After starting the new year with Chicago Steak, their throwback steakhouse, the chameleon-like restaurant will take on Chinese: Modern and end the year with Trio, January 20, 2004.
Chinese: Modern will run from May through August and feature the food epicureans are familiar with (buns, dumplings, noodles) but done in Next's unique way. In the e-mail to season ticket holders the restaurant asks, "What happens when a thousand year-old cuisine collides with the mind-set of culinary innovation?"
Trio, January 20, 2004, running from September through December, references the Evanston restaurant where chef-owner Grant Achatz made a name for himself. Achatz served the Tour de Force menu on January 20, 2004 (read this account for the blow-by-blow). This "grand menu" will be a look back at the dinner that generated a discussion between Achatz and Nick Kokonas that led to the opening of Alinea a year later. The dinner will feature other classic dishes from the Trio era as well.
Tickets will go on sale after Thanksgiving.
