Changing concepts wasn't enough for Starland, as Theo Gilbert will shutter his Bucktown restaurant after service on Sunday. First reported by Wicker Park Bucktown Insider's Guide, Gilbert couldn't negotiate a lease extension and has decided to close up at the end of the weekend.
Starland was a changeup for Gilbert, who owned Italian restaurants for nearly seven years prior, beginning with Terragusto in Roscoe Village. He opened Ripasso in the space on Damen in 2011, but changed it into a more whimsical boathouse-themed small plate spot, Starland, in August.
When he opened Starland, Gilbert expressed interest in reopening Ripasso at another location. Time will tell whether that comes to fruition.
