Mercadito Deli Concept Coming to Bel 50 Space

Look for a Mexican deli from a restaurateur on a roll to replace waffle sandwiches very soon in River North. Alfredo Sandoval, one of the men behind the many Mercadito Hospitality restaurants, is opening up Mercadito Counter, his most casual concept yet, in the space that used to house the waffle sandwich spot Bel 50. The turnaround is a quick one, as Mercadito Counter, the eleventh Mercadito project, is slated to open before winter officially begins.

Mercadito Counter will fuse a taqueria with a deli, serving a selection of tacos, Mexican-themed burgers and hot dogs, rotisserie chickens, all-day breakfast, and soups, salads, sides, and Mexican grocery items. Dishes include "The Mole-Q Dog" (mole bbq sauce, green tomato-jalapeño slaw, three mustards, onion strings), gordita sliders, and huevos rancheros.

Bel 50 served its creative waffle sandwiches for less than seven months on Clark Street and now Mercadito is announcing their new project four months later. Stay tuned for more details.
