After being shut out last year, Chicago is represented not once but twice on Esquire's annual Best New Restaurants list. Carriage House and Embeya—both opened in September 2012—are among the 20 honored by the magazine.
Esquire writer John Mariani lauds Carriage House's "communal tables and farmhouse accents that avoid Epcot Center phoniness" and describes Embeya as "that rare, beautifully designed Asian restaurant that can please big spenders and dumpling sniffers alike." The last local restaurant to make the list was Chicago Cut in 2011.
