The bustling Division Street drinking scene might take a hit. Michael Simon is now former beverage director at Carriage House and The Bedford, saying he officially left Friday. Simon gives a litany of reasons for his departure: Debates on seasonal cornbread toppings, shouting "I love mixology" while high-fiving his bar team, demanding a Prius limousine, and debating quantities of benedictine in certain cocktails. "Low country, low problems," Simon says of his decision to leave the low-country themed Carriage House.
Obviously these are tongue-in-cheek answers, but the fact remains that Simon is out. He left Acadia in June to open Carriage House, and now he'll be moving to another new position. Simon has become a lightning rod in the local cocktail scene. 312 Diving Diva quotes Carriage House and The Bedford chef Mark Steuer with a more direct answer, saying "it was over creative differences."
Simon is up for best mixologist at the 16th annual Jean Banchet Awards. What's next now? He says he's starting a hip hop group based on Game of Thrones and mixology.
