Last month, Jack Weiss (Coco Pazzo) announced that he planned to open a pizzeria and trattoria in Streeterville, focused on the Lazio region of Italy. When Pompeii closed earlier this year, Weiss knew he had an opportunity to bring something new to the area, with the 100 seat restaurant Tre Soldi. Tre Soldi will focus on Roman-style pizza (thin, but not cracker thin) and Weiss has brought Pamela Fitzpatrick (Fox & Obel, Lettuce Entertain You) to consult on the pizza dough and other specialty bread that will be served at the restaurant. The spot will be so much more than pizza, and according to executive chef Federico Comacchio (Coco Pazzo), the dishes will be "very traditional of the Lazio region, but with a twist."
Some of the dishes that Comacchio plans to have on the menu include: green paparadelle with fava beans and lamb ragu; lamb chops with artichoke and pancetta; and a lighter version of eggplant parmesan with goat cheese ricotta. Ice cream and sorbet will be made in-house, along with other desserts like organic spelt tart with black cherry marmalade topped with sabayon; and an Italian Napoleon with raspberries and cream.
As part of the build-out, Weiss is adding a bar and plans to have a large wine program with over 20 wines by the glass. The restaurant will take both reservations and walk-ins and will likely deliver to neighboring high rises and business. Construction will begin in the next few weeks with a targeted May opening.
