The coffee market is jumping. After recent news of coffee expansions from Dark Matter, Dollop Coffee and Tea and Intelligentsia, Asado Coffee Company is following suit. A second location of the roasting facility/retail shop is coming to 1651 W. Chicago in the spring and a third in one of the most historic buildings in the Loop, 22 E. Jackson, for a late 2014 opening. Both locations will have two roasters in the center and feature two custom-made espresso machines imported from the Netherlands. Owner Jeff Liberman says only four exist in America.
The Chicago Avenue location, named Asado Coffee Roasters is in a brand-new building. It'll be high-end, employing bio tiles, a new architectural technology where actual plants grow out of the walls. They're hoping to open in April.
The Jackson location is in a three-story pre-Chicago Fire building known as Pickwick Stable, which the Tribune dates back to 1857. They'll have two stories and 800-square feet.
Asado gained a ton of publicity in 2010, they were named best cup of coffee by Chicago Magazine and best roaster by The Reader. They make every cup of coffee one at a time, no pots. "We changed coffee four years ago, and we're doing it again," Liberman says. Stay tuned.
