Gaston Acurio—a celeb chef and restaurateur in Peru who has expanded his empire to 32 restaurants around the world, including spots in San Francisco and New York in the U.S.—is finally bringing his brand to Chicago. Phil Vettel reports that the chef will open Tanta at 118 W. Grand Avenue this spring.
Acurio has locations of Tanta in Lima, Peru and Barcelona, Spain, and they serve the usual roster of Peruvian staples including anticuchos, ceviche, causas, and more. Acurio launched Tanta as a chain offering more affordable and accessible Peruvian fare, but we shall see if the price point will translate to the States. His other American properties, both locations of La Mar Cebicheria, are not best defined as affordable. The San Francisco restaurant has received wide acclaim, while reception in New York was mixed at best.
