Martin Kastner, the owner of design studio Crucial Detail, is best known as the guy who creates the cool and innovative tableware for Alinea and, more recently, The Aviary. But now he's being spotlighted in a big way after having a massively successful Kickstarter campaign to the tune of $736,113 in just about a month that ended yesterday.

Last month, Kastner launched the campaign to raise funds for the Porthole, an infusion vessel that first appeared at the Aviary, to bring it to the masses. What was amazing was that Kastner had hoped to raise $28,500 in a month. He did that in about two hours.

Now the real work begins as Kastner has to deliver the Porthole not only to the public for purchase at about $100, but also to the 4,270 people who backed his Kickstarter campaign and will receive at least one Porthole. Can the Porthole be used to infuse coffee? Looks like he'll need it.
