Alain's, the recently opened South Loop spot from chef Alain Njike (Charlie Trotter's, NoMI) and Chicago Bears Israel Idonije, was served with an eviction notice. The bright neon sticker from the Cook County Sheriff's Office appeared on the front door on Sept. 24, but no explanation is given.

Eater attempted to get in touch with Alain's via phone and email, but was unable to talk to anyone at press time (in fact, the email was returned as undeliverable and the phone never went to voicemail). The news about the French- and Cameroonian-influenced upscale American restaurant came as a surprise as early reviews have been fairly positive. According to Sloopin, Entourage, a men's retail store that had been in the same spot, was also evicted in 2011. This story is developing and if anyone has information, feel free to drop a note to the tipline.
