Frontier will host its 2nd annual Oyster Shucking Competition this Sunday, August 12 starting at noon. The contest will feature some of Chicago’s top chefs going head-to-head in a bracket-style tournament with the winner receiving a $500 cash prize. The event will also be trying to raise money for the Greater New Orleans Foundation with a $10 suggested donation from attendees. The charity raises funds and awareness for the Gulf Oil Spill and was personally selected by Frontier Chef Brian Jupiter because of his New Orleans heritage.
Contestants for the oyster shucking competition will be given 18 oysters and must present 15 at the end of each round on the half shell. Judging will be done on a 100-point scale with points given for speed, appearance and technique. Some of the restaurants that will be represented by chefs include GT Fish & Oyster, The Publican, Arami and Lillie’s Q. Patrons will also be able to enter an oyster eating contest, starting at 1 p.m., for a chance to win $200 and a pair of pearl earrings. Food specials for the event include $6 chargrilled oysters and $12 dozen chef’s choice oysters.
