There's no question the impact Julia Child had on the culinary world. And it's no secret the famed chef would have turned 100 on Aug. 15 (she passed away in 2004). Fans have been honoring this historic date, dubbed JC100, with events all over the world and Chicago is no different.
A self-proclaimed cookbook nerd, Jared Van Camp will honor Julia Child with a special three-course dinner at Old Town Social on Aug. 15. To make this $30 dinner even more special, all recipes will be taken from Child's book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking and will include salade Nicoise, poulets grillés a la diable, gratin dauphinois aux endives and artichauts braisé a la Provençalé. To reserve a spot, call 312-266-2277 and get more info here.
If the dinner weren't enough, Van Camp is giving away copies of both volumes of Mastering the Art of French Cooking with pages marked with his favorite recipes. All you need to do is tweet @OldTownSocial and wish Julia Child a happy birthday with the hashtag #cookforjulia. The contest is open through Friday at midnight when they will select one random winner.
