Is Bleeding Heart Bakery Going Out of Business?

New, 38 comments

Following the recent announcement that Bleeding Heart Bakery founders Michelle and Vinny Garcia were splitting from partners Greg Mohr and Scott Weiner at the West Town location (which re-opens tomorrow as West Town Bakery & Diner), now comes word that the Garcias may be shuttering their final two locations, one of which, in Lakeview, just opened two months ago.

A Craigslist ad went up announcing a major sale of what appears to be all or most of Bleeding Heart's baking equipment. The sale is said to be taking place this Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. behind the Lakeview spot at 1351 W. Belmont.

Eater called the Belmont shop and the staffer who answered confirmed the sale and said that both locations, the other in Elmhurst, are closing. She wasn't able to say what happened or when the bakery would officially close. However, an email to Michelle Garcia inquiring about the liquidation resulted in a response of, "I'm not sure where that came from but, no." But then wrote back that she was, in fact, having a "garage sale," but didn't confirm whether the business was shuttering.

More interesting is that initial email to Garcia first resulted in an auto-reply message that the bakery would be unable to take any orders for product to be baked after Aug. 10 and they suggest to instead contact Tipsycake. So why would the staffer at the shop say the sale was happening and that both locations are closing if Garcia is saying it's not? Or is it?
