Is West Hollywood's The Abbey Expanding to Boystown?

New, 5 comments

Is The Abbey Food & Bar coming to Boystown? Rumors of David Cooley's West Hollywood hotspot opening a second location have been swirling for a while, but the latest whispers put it at 3532 N. Halsted (a former auto-repair shop).

If it’s anything like the original, The Abbey will bring all kinds of delicious debauchery to Lakeview from Mexican-inspired shared plates and exotic cocktails to DJ’s and go-go dancers. One of the hottest gay clubs in West Hollywood, The Abbey began as a small coffeehouse in 1991. Now, five expansions later, it houses over 16,000 square feet of bars, lounges, dining rooms and dance floors.

The rumored 12,000-square-foot Chicago location is reportedly under contract by local businesswoman Wendy Berger Shapiro, although the purchase has not been finalized, according to ChicagoPride.com. The restaurant’s publicist assures us that no plans have been confirmed, but “scouts and developers are definitely in the area.” Oh boy, let’s hope so.
