Next has this pretty impressive ability to get people's panties in a bunch every few months, causing them to wait breathlessly by their computers to buy tickets to the next new menu offering. You saw it with Paris, Thailand, Childhood and, especially, elBulli. And now, with the start of the newest iteration, Sicily, it's happening again.
Late last week, the restaurant offered up a small batch of tickets for the opening weekend and sold out within minutes. Then, Next released a short intro video, showcasing the menu's rusticity and inspiration with a voiceover by Fabrizia Lanza, whose mother, Anna Tasca Lanza founded the Sicilian cooking school bearing her name. Lanza gave guidance on this new menu.
After you watch the video, read two first-hand accounts of the dinner—including various antipasti, bucatini con bottarga, grilled artichokes and a cassata (a traditional Sicilian Easter cake)—from a guest who has now eaten it twice.
