BellyQ to Have Karaoke Room, Grill-Top Tables, "Grab and Go" Window

Slowly but surely more information is leaking out about BellyQ, Bill Kim's new Asian barbecue concept being developed in partnership with Cornerstone Restaurant Group. Last month, Kim revealed that all the servers will don cool leather aprons and that some items will be prepared in a Chinese water smoker.

Over the weekend, Kim said the restaurant, which aims to open later this summer, will have a karaoke room where guests can participate in nightly karaoke. Kim said he wants to have regular "chef karaoke throwdown" nights featuring local chefs going head to head in vocal battles.

He added that he and his wife and partner, Yvonne Cadiz-Kim, have become a little obsessed with karaoke. "Yvonne and I have been bitten by the Karaoke bug in putting this project together," Kim said. "My favorite song right now is Fantasy by Earth, Wind & Fire and Yvonne does a mean version of Notorious B.I.G's Hypnotize."

The menu is still being developed, but Kim said he is planning to include a "grab and go element on the Randolph side" of the restaurant for people to walk up and get different items for take away. Back inside, Kim said a section of the restaurant will be dedicated to Japanese infrared grill-top tables where guests can cook food themselves. With the space as large as the now-shuttered one sixtyblue is, Kim sounds like he's really having fun building it out for BellyQ.
