As part of Eater's first ever Pizza Week, chefs at five Chicago restaurants that don't serve pizza agreed to make a special limited-edition pizza or pizza-inspired dish, served just this week. Today we introduce the Pizza Dog from Franks N Dawgs.
While Pizza Week officially ends later today, it's just getting started at Franks N Dawgs. The haute dog joint in Lincoln Park was closed most of this week for some renovations, but re-opened today. Owner Alex Brunacci and chef Joe Doren created a special Pizza Dog that goes on the menu today and will run through all next week.
The dog features Wagyu beef Italian sausage, house marinara sauce, smoked mozzarella, caramelized portobello and basil. "The inspiration is from taking one of the more classic pizzas, but giving it a fine dining twist while still serving it up on our New England-style lobster bun," Brunacci said. The Pizza Dog is at Franks N Dawgs for the next week (closed Monday) for $8.
