As part of Eater's first ever Pizza Week, chefs at five Chicago restaurants that don't serve pizza agreed to make a special limited-edition pizza or pizza-inspired dish, served just this week. Today we introduce the Pizza Burger from Butcher & the Burger.
Last year, Eater had Burger Week. This year it's Pizza Week. What better way to combine the two themes then by having a burger place make a pizza burger? So thanks to chef Allen Sternweiler at Butcher & the Burger, we have it: a pork burger with Italian seasoning, garlic, griddled onion and mushroom, mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce on a split top bun.
The Pizza Burger will be available for $9.50 all day at the Lincoln Park shop through Sunday. Sternweiler says it's good as is and needs no additional condiments. As for why this combination of flavors? "I eat pizza and I don't like more than three toppings, sometimes only two, outside of cheese and sauce," he said. "When I order pizza it's either pepperoni or sausage with mushroom or onions. I don't put a lot of garnish on the pizza. These are my favorite toppings."
