The Billy Goat Tavern is closing, but don't worry, it's not that one. Owner Sam Sianis will shutter his burger joint in the Loop at 309 W. Washington on May 1 after 30 years because the landlord wanted to charge more for his monthly rent. According to the Sun-Times, Sianis had been paying $6,500 a month on a month-to-month basis, but the landlord found a new tenant to pay the requested $15,000 a month. Sianis is currently looking at other Loop locations for the Billy Goat.
So the Billy Goat is out and Naf Naf Grill is coming in. The owners of the Mediterranean restaurant, with three suburban locations, will revamp the 2,700 square-foot restaurant and open this fall to provide Loop workers with inexpensive falafel, shawarma, kababs, hummus and more. And if you're still craving a cheezborger, just walk a little further as the Billy Goat has five other spots in the city.
