Iowa Gov. Terry Brandstad just signed into law a bill that will prevent undercover investigations at concentrated animal feeding operations, or CAFOs. The bill will protect factory farms from having any unauthorized people from taking pictures or video of animal housing or feeding conditions to expose any mistreatment of the animals. During a news conference, Brandstad said, "My feeling is if somebody comes onto somebody else's property through fraud or deception or lying, that is a very serious violation of people's rights." Pro-animal groups are concerned about the animals' rights as well as environmental issues. Hearings in Illinois over a similar bill are set for this Wednesday. What should our legislators do?
