Michael Kornick may be busy with details for Ada Street, but never too busy to help out a good cause. In an effort to help kids eat healthier, including increasing their vegetable intake, Kornick got involved with the program Lunch Break for Schools. Lunch Break for Schools supports Chefs Move to Schools, a program that Kornick has been a longtime proponent of, that pairs chefs with schools in their communities. To support the cause, MK will be hosting a Lunch Break lunch on Wednesday, February 29. The prix fixe lunch costs $50 per person and all of the proceeds will be used to create nutrition-based educational programs.
The Lunch Break for Schools fundraising events are taking place across the country from February 27 through March 2 with over 70 chefs participating. Each chef will create a lunch based on a recommended one-week school lunch menu released by First Lady Michelle Obama and the White House.
MK's prix fixe school lunch menu will consist of:
Crudité with Hidden Valley ranch
Salmon carpaccio, salad of fennel, crab & blood orange, virgin olive oil
Braised short rib, winter vegetables, mashed celery root
Celery shallot gremolata
Hot fudge sundae, Tony Salerno's butter cookies
Reservations are recommended but not required.
