Three weeks ago, Eater got a sneak peek at Au Cheval, Brendan Sodikoff's new diner in the West Loop. At that time, he said it was close to opening and now, tonight is the official big reveal. The 1400 square-foot, 50-seat restaurant is likely the fanciest diner you've ever seen with a zinc-topped bar, antique mirrors, distressed leather booths and other upscale flourishes Sodikoff's other restaurants, Gilt Bar and Maude's Liquor Bar, exhibit.
The menu, which can be viewed in full below, is also pricier than your average greasy spoon, but then again, can you get foie gras terrine with tart cherry jam; chopped chicken liver with salted butter and toast or General Tso's chicken with a dried chili and brown sugar glaze at any ordinary diner? Throw in a pretty great beer list with selections from Allagash, Three Floyds, Jolly Pumpkin and, of course, Budweiser, to go with your single or double cheeseburger and the idea of "diner" just went to a new place.
