Chicago staple Zealous Restaurant will be closing its doors following New Year's Eve, they released in a statement today. The multi-cuisine concept opened nearly 20 years ago under chef and owner Michael Taus, an early protege of Charlie Trotter. Now they have more in common, closing their restaurants in the same year.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce Zealous Restaurant has decided not to
resign a new lease which would increase three-fold," Taus said in the statement. "We do not want to commit to another ten years at this particular location."

Taus says he's consulting on a new concept, taking a European vacation, and returning with news of the new place. What do you remember most about Zealous? Add it in the comments section.
