EVERYWHERE— Hopefully everyone had a safe Halloween. And hopefully it was made somewhat more frightful by our Haunted Places Map . The 16 largely-centralized hotspots are well-known for their regular hauntings— apparitions, inhuman noises, and other paranormal delights. Missed your chance to tour the sites on Halloween? Good news: these places are screwy year-round.

STREETERVILLE— The Chicago Landmarks Commission at least pretended to sympathetic to the impassioned preservationist case for saving Bertrand Goldberg's Prentice Hospital, before voting to deny protections for the singular and iconic building. Get our play-by-play of yesterday's meeting and bid your goodbyes to Old Prentice.

EVERYWHERE— As a starting point for Curbed's new Archigames feature, we spent all week pitting local Postmodern works of architecture against one another in deathmatches. Readers both nominated and voted on the best representatives of the style, and whittled the field of eight down to one: 333 W Wacker is the Curbediverse's PoMo champ! Check out the full menu of face-offs.

SOUTH LOOP— An old Cook County Courthouse that was the subject of previous development and conversion efforts looks to be in line for adaptive reuse. Steadily deteriorating, many thought the ornate 7-story building didn't stand a chance. But a permit has just been issued for a $3M rehab and conversion to residential with 49 apartments. Yay!
