F & W Launches Cookbook; Features Jimmy Bannos Jr.

New, 30 comments

Last night Food & Wine magazine held its annual Chicago chef showcase at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and today is heading over to Purple Pig to launch its newest cookbook, America's Greatest New Cooks. The book focuses on all types of cuisine from chefs that are not yet household names.

Twelve chefs from around the country are featured, including Jimmy Bannos Jr., the only Chicago chef in the book. Ten of the 100 recipes are his and include dishes like lamb chops with grape leaf salsa verde and pork shank osso buco.

Food & Wine Editor-in-Chief Dana Cowin chose Bannos Jr. because, "his food is so gutsy and personal...And for readers of our book, I was confident that they would want to cook his food at home like the farro salad with onions and feta or the ziti with pork gravy and fresh ricotta. It's comforting and original; an excellent combination."
