While it's been open a little more than a month, Senza still seems to fly a bit under the radar. The intimate 42-seat Lakeview restaurant, designed by 555 International, added an upscale element to the East Lakeview dining scene. But what's more fascinating is that exec chef Noah Sandoval (Green Zebra, Schwa, Takashi) has created an entirely gluten-free menu utilizing local and oftentimes organic ingredients in beautiful preparations.
Sandoval has crafted both a la carte and tasting menus, including a five-course vegetable tasting menu ($65), five course regular tasting menu ($75) and a nine-course Grand tasting menu ($105). Each tasting menu can add wine for $25; pairings for the Grand is $40.
Sandoval's a la carte menu has an array of dishes like the grilled little gem lettuce with anchovy, tomato, caper and croutons; scallop with mocetta, crab, apple and choucroute; tagliatelle with tomato, grilled bread, chanterelle mushroom and truffle; halibut with plum, trumpet mushroom, pecan and black garlic; and a NY Strip with smoked potato, root vegetable, tarragon and blackberry.
The restaurant, open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 to 10, also serves breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Look for menu items like beignets, waffle cone parfait, English muffin sandwich with bacon, egg and gruyere; Lyonnaise salad; "everything" gnocchi; and flatbread with a sunny-side-up egg, ham, pecorino and chimichurri. And yes, Senza does have a full bar so you can get wine, beer or cocktails with your meal.
