Hate waiting for a table at Big Star? You're not the only one, but if you act quickly you can be one of the lucky few to snag a reservation—yes, you read that right—on the rare night that the Wicker Park taqueria will accept reservations. The phone lines (OK email lines) are now open for a special Nov. 13 Three Floyds communal dinner being held on Big Star's enclosed patio.
Chef Justin Large has created a four-course meal where an obscure Three Floyds beer (Blot Out the Sun Stout will apparently debut at the dinner) will get paired with each course. A fifth beer will also be offered as dessert. The dinner costs $50 a person and 25 spots at each of the two seatings at 6:30 and 9 can be reserved via email only.
So what's on tap?
· Tortilla-crusted scallop with plantain puree, puffed rice, currant and sweet plantain salsa paired with Stack 'N Stabb
· Smoked chorizo with mezcal, roasted mussel and tomato salsa and chow-chow paired with Formorion Priestess
· Poached turkey breast and braised turkey leg with cranberry stuffing, honey mole and chicharron paired with Robert the Bruce
· Lamb T-bone with morcilla tamale, stewed pinto beans, coffee mole and dandelion greens paired with Blot Out the Sun Stout
· Alpha Klaus as dessert
Don't sit on this because you know these spots will go fast.
