Karyn's Raw Should Open Next Week; Cause of Fire 'Wasn't Electrical,' Under Investigation

New, 6 comments

Last week, Karyn's Raw Bistro was closed following a fire. While it sounds ironic that a raw food restaurant would close due to a fire, the incident actually started in Karyn's Inner Beauty Center attached to the restaurant. Most of the damage was contained to that area and due to a closed door between the two spaces, the smoke damage in the restaurant was minimal, according to owner Karyn Calabrese.

Calabrese said they're cleaning up and hope to open Karyn's Raw by early to mid next week. While the initial investigation is ongoing, Calabrese said they suspect the fire was due to arson. "I really can't say anything except it wasn't electrical," she said. "It for sure wasn't electrical, but is under investigation."

While Karyn's Raw Bistro will open next week, the spa and educational center likely won't open again until early January, which is when Calabrese will release Soak Your Nuts: The Recipes, the follow-up to Soak Your Nuts: Cleansing With Karyn. She added that when she re-opens next week, it won't be a full-scale opening and that she's currently working on new recipes to add to the menu. "I was disheartened at first, but I look at this as an advantage to improve some things," Calabrese said, and added with a laugh, "out of the ashes I will rise again ? literally."
