Trader Joe's continues its Chicago expansion this Friday when it opens its highly anticipated South Loop store. The specialty grocer will open at 8 a.m. in the former Sam's Wines spot on the corner of Roosevelt and Wabash and, other than having localized art, the store will more or less look like the other Trader Joe's in the area.
The shop will carry familiar Trader Joe's brands, packaged goods, meats and more. It'll also carry Goose Island beer along with some other specialty beers. Artists who work at the store created murals depicting local South Loop landmarks: architecture, the EL and even a mural of Buckingham Fountain. The store has two levels of parking with 47 spaces; the garage is accessible off of Wabash. And while Sam's used the lower level to sell wine and other goods, Trader Joe's has closed that off to the public and will use that for storage. Trader Joe's will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
