Did The Original Mitchell's on Clybourn Shutter?

Eater just reported that Leo's Coney Island has closed and now it looks like another spot may have done the same. The Original Mitchell's has been a staple diner in Chicago since the 1950s. Over the years the Mitchell family has had various locations in Old Town, Gold Coast, Niles and Lincoln Park. Their Clybourn location, the last of their open locations in Chicago, looks to have shuttered on Sunday.

The staff had been warning long time customers that it was going to happen soon. Eater tried emailing and calling (the phone just kept ringing), but have not gotten a response. An Eater tipster tells us that they spoke with the owner and that the rent just got too high. The owner mentioned they may move to Roscoe Village or Lakeview but nothing has been confirmed. The reviews on Yelp have been less than favorable in recent months. Interestingly, their Open Table reservation page and website are still active.
