Mayor Rahm Emanuel has said he'd like to turn Uptown's Broadway corridor into a North Side entertainment district and one of the first steps is to finally raise the necessary funding to rehab the aging-yet-still-glamorous Uptown Theater to join the Aragon Ballroom, Riviera and Annoyance theaters.
So on Oct. 26, the neighborhood will host Uptown Live!, a $100 per person fundraiser, which includes drinks in the Bridgeview Bank rotunda (featured in Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp), historian-led tours of the historic Uptown Theater lobby and dinner at one of the participating Argyle Street restaurants.
Guests will dine in small groups (you can secure tickets for the night for a group of six for $500) at one of the following spots: Furama Restaurant, Hon Kee Restaurant, Masala Indian and Thai Cuisine Restaurant, Pho 777, Pho Lily, Pho Viet, Sun Wah BBQ and Tien Giang.
Each restaurant is BYO and guests can use a coupon in the night's guidebook for a discounted bottle (or three) at Foremost Liquors on Argyle. Money raised will go to Uptown United and Business Partners-Chamber for Uptown and tickets can be secured online.
